Frokost - The Vault (1994-2001)

In the beginning of the nineties we went to high school together. Mikkel and Tue knew each other from primary school, where they became musical bloodbrothers in a stunning live-performance of "Back in the USSR" with Mikkels mother, Kirsten, as the only audience. Thomas from Mikkels new high school class knew how to play them drums. The three of us formed Frokost.

The recordings on this page span a seven year period and include hellraising livetracks from high school, ups'n'downs in the rehearsal room and various soundbites from long-gone occasions. The sound quality ranges from crappy++ to mediocre.

About

Breakfast with Double-O

We liked to play this in the rehearsal room. We really had to concentrate to play as little as possible. (3.1 MB)

Burhund

Mikkel's aunt found a perfectly functional Roland SH-1000 in a dumpster. Here Tue tries it for the first time. We still use the thing now and then. The recording is pretty low, so maybe your ears can't percept it. Hear it through your dog. (1.2 MB)

City

First song with Mikkel doing the vocals. The rest of us were ordered to take a long walk meanwhile. (5.0 MB)

Frisch

This came straight out of Frants' forehead once. A nice song. (2.9 MB)

Gibbonhead

As was the case with 'Sun', working on this song was a neverending, unsatisfying desertwalk. As might you might have learned from a song from the eighties or a film from the nineties, pride is basically a selfish and stupid thing. If we had any pride, we would have burned this demo. To our defense we must add that occassionally it sounded so much better. Poor sound. Poor ears. (1.2 MB)

Good night

A personal favourite from that period. Maybe we should re-record it to improve the sound. (3.3 MB)

Heavy petting

We still like this one a lot, but unfortunately the live-sound is a big mess, and maybe it's just inside of heads that it makes sense. We know what it's supposed to sound like - you would like it too if you knew. Anders Pharnen is guest star on out-of-tune guitar. (5.0 MB)

It was the first thing I did

Well, it wasn't. Somewhere on a cassette in a box in cellar there is a better version of this strange little thing. Actually the vocals on this take is an overdub done years later by a friend of Mikkel and Thomas, deep-voiced Jakob. Tue happens to like this track, and so insisted on playing it. The rest of the band is merely following orders here. "What's this song about?" "Eh, nothing." (2.0 MB)

Medley 1

When we recently converted these recordings from cassette to mp3, we felt really embarrassed about much of it. This meddley (split into #1 and #2) is sort of a reverse Directors Cut of a concert in 1994. Usually Directors Cut allows you to see more of the film, some deleted scenes, maybe alternate endings or whatever. In our Directors Cut you are not allowed to hear anything. Listen carefully and you might be able to percept pieces from the songs "Taj Mahal", "Leave me please", "Tissi Jam" and "Frokost på den kinetiske ambassade". (7.0 MB)

Medley 2

The second part of the medley includes parts (if not all) of "John Silver", "Alice", "Cultures End" and "Hard days night" - the only Beatles-cover we've played. Faster and worse than the original. Tue brought hot tea in this pink bottle on stage that night, because his throat was soare. Never drank it, though. Should have. (4.7 MB)

Mesmerize

Annoying in an offensive way. Mikkel and Tue in a late night session. Behold or beware. (3.1 MB)

Not too tall at all

We rehearsed this one a lot, because it was easy to play (which would make rehearsal kind of unnecessary). The best takes included Frans sitting on the floor banging on pots and pans. Sadly this was never recorded. (5.2 MB)

På safari

David leads us on a narrow path through the darkness here. (2.1 MB)

Rosselblues

Blues is a mighty big word for this thing. Maybe somebody should have killed our darlings when they had the chance. (1.8 MB)

Snake

Some nice elements here. And the sound is ok. Tues guitar is out of context at one point (a Jar Jar Binks of guitarplay). Don't believe him if he tells you he's sorry. (5.6 MB)

Sun

A true nightmare of a song. Never satisfied with it. Now and then Thomas suggests that we try to reconstruct it. It takes more than good retorical skills to persuade the rest of the group. (5.2 MB)

The Caribbean

"This is a hard one to play." Mikkels melodies on the leadguitar makes you wanna hum. (3.3 MB)

Time Time

We can still hear this without blushing. We would like to change a lot of things, though. (3.3 MB)

Tour Cuba

Thomas hated playing this song. This take showcases Mikkel and Tue trying to musically convince Thomas of the true quality of the track. (1.7 MB)

You fell out

The members of the band would like to apologize for this one. If you could ever feel it in your hearts to forgive us... (4.1 MB)
