No rules without exceptions. "Youth is wasted on the young" is NOT based on an idea recorded in New York. On the contrary, this dog showed up when we least expected it while recording two other songs. So file under "quick and dirty". The song features our brand new microphone, Green Bullit. It distorts the sound so much we can't even figure out ourselves who's singing the first line - could be either of us. February is soon over, spring is near. 'Tis the season to be jolly. Oh, and we forgot to update the news on the last song "New Job". |

10 years ago - when we still had a rehearsal room in an old shipyard - we did a lot of instrumental stuff. Not because we even liked instrumentals or listened to it ourselves, but because none of us liked to sing. Aided by technology we now have lyrics in our songs. Except this one. "Academy" is not a re-recorded blast from the past, but a brand new new baby loosely based one an idea recorded by Tue in New York. It's a work for guitars, definitely. No acoustic guitars unfortunately, but steel guitar, standard electric guitars and electric guitars recorded as if they were acoustic guitars (whatever that means). And Mikkel also shows off some of his sax skills here and there. |

This song actually comes with a strategy. Seriously. Tired of getting tired after working on the same song for weeks and sometimes months, this time we decided to work on three songs in parallel. That way we'd be able to shift back and forth between songs whenever they got on our nerves. And this is the result: a song called "Lonely town" from two still balanced guys, still on top of things and still in touch with their feelings. We should start a cult. We are joined here by both Agnete and Tora on choir, making this song something of a family effort (what is this, ABBA??) With these words, we go back to the living room to work on the two next songs: a slightly weird Brazil-inspired thing and a wickedly weird tune that might end up as our first instrumental in ages. Aaanyway, "Lonely town" is ready for your ears. For best sound go to frokostmusic.dk and not myspace. If you like the music, spread it. Thanks. Happy summer. Mikkel & Tue |

Hi everybody Up next is "Take your sorry ass to the movies", once again losely based on an idea recorded in New York. No new instruments are tested here, we are back to the basics on this one. Enjoy. And as usual, if you like what you hear, tell other people, spread the love, sharing is caring (you get the message). Thanks. Greetings from Copenhagen Mikkel & Tue |

Hi everybody Admitted, it's been a while. More than half a year, actually. This is what happened... After we finished "Film Night" in June, Tue moved back to NYC. During this separation we followed different strategies. Mikkel bought a load of new instruments (seriously, a load) and had a son - both somewhat time-consuming events. Tue recorded bits and pieces from his apartment and sent them across the Atlantic to hear Mikkel's opinion. Now together in Copenhagen again, we have selected between 10 and 15 of these ideas and started working on them from scratch. And today, after about a month's work, we are done with the first one - "On the brink". Formwise, it's a pretty straightforward song. Cheerful, even. Don't be scared when you hear something resembling a refrain! And Mikkel is back on the steel guitar and introduces the clarinet. On another note: our first album "The sound of my wooden chest" has reached the UK now. The ever inspiring Norman Records now carries it in their selection. Buy it from them if you haven't already got a copy. Not too many of these shabby dogs left. This is the place: http://www.normanrecords.com/records/104758 And of course, if you live in the U.S., find one at Other Music here: http://www.othermusic.com/perl-bin/OM/CD_Show_Info.cgi?ID=9451296.2165&catalog_id=73632 So... we hope everybody's fine. It's great to be recording again. Hope you like what you hear. |

Our goal has been to finish two songs during the short time Tue is in Copenhagen. And we JUST made it. We are now ready with "Too full of potential" - the second song in 9 months and the last in the next 6 (there goes a confusing sentence). Clicking in on 3:41 this song is longer than usual. It has verses, choruses, bridges, new trumpet, new western guitar, classic quirky choir - you name it. Enjoy. |
20-05-2008 |
This is a first. "Film Night" is the first new song in 2008 (in 9 months actually), first (and last?) song with Mikkel playing a subtle transverse flute buried in the melody line and the first song to showcase long-time choir girrrlstar Agnete as lead vocalist. Otherwise everything is business as usual: 2 minutes and 20 seconds of 180 bpm quirkiness (is that even a word??) |

Dear everybody Here's a little update for y'all. Although no new songs are being made at this moment, a lot is still happening. You may think "how is that possible? what does that even MEAN?" and we may be able to answer that question right here, right now. Our first album is currently lying in the crowded piles of the reviewers' desks, just waiting to have its 15 minutes of fame. So far geiger.dk, frekvens.dk and fyens.dk have evaluated "The Sound Of My Wooden Chest" and we're very happy with what they are saying. We are impressed with their level of detail. Funny thing is, though, that each reviewer seems to get different associations when listening to the songs. Comparisons to Pere Ubu, Snakefinger, They Might Be Giants, Deerhoof, Bowie, "hip swedes in California", Primus, "american roots tradition", Ian Dury, Gorillaz and Stereo Total have been made interchangeably to our great pleasure (and amusement, in some cases). We're still waiting for some American reviews, though. We'll let you know if/when that happens. The words from our New York City satelite office is that the cd is now for sale at Manhattan's fantastic Other Music, at the great Cake Shop-venue at Lower East Side (they make a killer carrot cake, btw) and they still have one copy left at Academy Records in Brooklyn. It's being played regularly at Radio 1190 (the university radio of Boulder University, Colorado) and has just recently been sent to other university radios as well. Also, the great David Byrne seems to like the album (that he received when Tue met him at The Knitting Factory last year) - he put "Dancehall King" on his webradio in January. The words from our Copenhagen headquarters is that the cd is now for sale at every GUF-store, RockUglen at Frederiksborggade, Circles and Sound Station (both at Gl. Kongevej). Mikkel chose a beautiful day to bike around Copenhagen with a handful of cd's in his hand, trying to persuade the different stores - and apparently nobody has been able to say no to that winning smile of his (that's actually also how he gets his ideas through when we're making music.. any controversy and just - BAM - winning smile, Mikkel wins. No defense, no antidote, nothing.) Although no real recordings are being made at the moment, we are well-prepared for the summer when the band will be reunited. We have a bunch of sketchy recordings ready for treatment and we're both looking very much forward to work on these cats. And on a final note, Mikkel is going to visit Tue in NYC in under a week. Expect endless browsing at the record stores and massive shopping of instruments for future recordings. And of course: if you live in Denmark, you can also buy the album by writing us a mail. What's 100 kr. at this day and age? You'd have spent them on beer anyway. All the best to all of you. Mikkel and Tue |
04-12-2007 |
Dear all We almost can't believe it ourselves, but it IS true: our first proper cd is a reality. And we're talking the non-virtual kind - the kind that you can weigh in your hand, the kind that sounds better than mp3s, the kind with inner cover and liner notes and pictures. Yup - call us old-fashioned, but Frokost is out on cd. "The Sound of My Wooden Chest" collects 17 of what we consider our best songs in newly remastered editions, beautifully packaged in a LUSH cover with beautiful artwork designed by Benedicte and painstakingly handfolded in a limited edition of 500 copies by Tora, Rasmus, Charlotte and Mikkel. The cd will soon be sold from frokostmusic.dk for 100 kr. ($20), shipping included. But as a member of the esoteric Frokost-maillist you can get it already now for half that price. So if you want to own one of these rare puppies, just reply to this mail and we'll explain you what to do next. On another note.. what's happening with new songs from Frokost these days? With Tue living in New York and Mikkel in Copenhagen, finishing songs seems harder than ever. But starting songs is as good as always - we're both working on new ideas with a few thousand kilometers between us, sending them to each other for evaluation and inspiration. So when time comes we will have a bunch of halfbaked ideas all ready and just waiting for us to finish them. Shouldn't take more than a week from there ;-) So if you want to have your very own copy of Frokost "The Sound of My Wooden Chest", reserve 50 kr. from your Christmas-budget and write us a mail. We will send it with love. Merry Christmas |

Well, waddaya know? Another song is ready. "Introducing The Disappointments" is based on an idea Mikkel had about a month ago. We added a new section, lyrics, structure and steel guitar (a rare guest) within a few days of hard - but fun - work. And we can't hide it: we are very satisfied with this song. Hope you will like it too. |
23-07-2007 |
We just finished a song we've been working on for a few months. Be prepared for thick synthesizers and occassional triangle besides the usual stuff. We hope you like it. |
13-03-2007 |
Hello again. It's been nearly 5 months since our last newsletter, and nearly 6 since our last song. We're horrified. The way we see it, we're CONSTANTLY making music, but somehow we NEVER finish it. And according to the last newsletter we were working on a song back then called "Visible Man". And guess what... we threw it away half-finished in our dumpster of death, our pile of pity. The new song is instead "Words can really hurt me" - available for download now. Go ahead. And enjoy the summer. Cheers. |
23-10-2006 |
The second demo is now finished, and we're very satisfied with the result. Again we have selected 5 songs: "Dancehall King", "Summer Nights", "The Spot Where You Are", "Daniel's Dream" and "Old Town Tokyo". For the latter we have recorded a new ending. The original was too tame (thanks to Jakob for being honest about it), so now we mobilized the entire guitar-cavalry. The demo is being sent to different magazines for reviews and also for a handful of labels. There seems to some problems with the server that is hosting frokostmusic.dk. While trying to work out a solution, we have made yet ANOTHER site with our music: www.frokost.soundvenue.com. The difference between this and www.myspace.com/frokost is mainly that you can listen/download 10 songs instead of 4, and the lyrics for all the songs are there. Actually you can even see pictures of the two demo-covers (under "Udgivelser"). And also: we're working on a new song. Working title has so far gone from "Visible Man" to "Devil Devil". We'd love to say that it's finished soon, but who are we to judge? To sum things up: New demo. And new site: www.frokost.soundvenue.com Have a nice week. |
19-09-2006 |
Here's a new song for y'all. It's a rather catchy little thing and behold: it's longer than the usual 2 minutes! You can hear it at our own site, but we will also post it at MySpace. Another thing: we're only a few days away from having completed our second demo. It consists of 5 of the - let's say - more straightforward songs. And once again Kenneth has designed a cool cover. Few days away, people, few days away. |

Here goes the English translation of the Gaffa review, as promised in last newsletter. Thank you, Glenn Weston, for translating it. What do you do if you’re not the world’s best band, but still write decent songs and are always pretty much in agreement about the way they should sound? Simply drop the band concept and record at home. Of course you lose some of the spark and raw energy that playing together brings, but your ideas are given the time and space to grow. These songs reveal a number of influences, most notably Snakefinger and Pere Ubu. The intriguing pop melodies are rarely given the chance to really break free of the tight arrangements, which are at time perhaps a little too restrained. This has however a charm I like, but it also means these good songs never get great. I don’t think it would hurt to go beyond the two minutes and actually try and finish writing these songs. Unfortunately these guys don’t play live, so Concert of the Month at Lades on September 8th will showcase two of ... |

Good news. Our first demo has been chosen as "Demo of the month" in the Danish music magazine Gaffa. For those who don't know the concept: one reviewer listens to a bunch of demos sent in by young (?) amateur bands, and he grades them and picks one as "Demo of the month". We had sent in the songs "I let it be", "Scary bitch", "The Wooden Chest", "Hanging out with the in-crowd" and "You're better off with you and me" in nice, remastered editions and with a cool cover. As for the "not able to play live"-comment: We will play live at some point, and the agreement with Gaffa is that we let them know whenever we are ready. Another thing: The songs on the demo are for purchase at www.payload.dk during september. Therefore it is not possible to download them from our own webpage anymore. All songs can now only be streamed. |

We are surprised ourselves. After two years on-and-off work with "Don't wake me up" we are finally finished. It's like saying goodbye to an old friend.. or vicious enemy. This baby has been haunting us in our dreams. The song is slightly country-inspired and features Mikkel on the long absent pedal steelguitar. Giddy up, cowboy. |

Time really seems to fly. It's been 3 months since last update, and it freaks us out. So what have been doing since then? A new song, a demo-cd and a myspace-profile. Let's take it one at a time... The new song is called "Some days are better than others" with a badly hidden reference to the old Smiths-song (and that's where the similarities stop). The song has a very gloomy sound to it, and we wanted to keep it kind of loose, so please don't double-check the beats-per-minute here. We can call it Varying-Beat-Rate. The song is obviously about the fact that some days just ARE better than others. The demo-cd is another project. We have had 5 songs re-mastered, so they sound really nice now. The songs are "I let it be", "Scary bitch", "The Wooden Chest", "Hanging out with the in-crowd" and "You're better off with you and me". The cover is made by Kenneth from Tue's work (thank you, Ken). Looks very nice. Being a demo-cd, this puppy is of course handed to different, mostly foreign, record-companies. We'll see what that brings. Finally we have set up a profile on myspace. It's on www.myspace.com/frokost - if you're a member of myspace yourself (it's free, tightwads) you should add us a your friend. We love friends. And we have - as usual - a handful of songs lying around waiting to be finished. We'll get around to it. Some day. Now, go get the new song. And enjoy the fantastic summer. |
22-04-2006 |
It seems that we're getting slower and slower at finishing songs. It's been more than 3 months since the last one. It's not that we're lazy, we're just approaching old age - we try hard. Latest Frokost-song is... (wait for it) ... "Hanging Out With The In-crowd". We offer new technology (the thing that sounds like a fart), Japanese Kung Fu-screaming and angel-choir by Agnete-San, and of course the usual multilayers of percussion and pitch-guitars. |
05-01-2006 |
We are back with a vengeance in 2006. Happy new year to you all. We are almost tired of saying this, but: this is one of the old left-behinds that we have finally finished. Six months is all it took to complete The Spot Where You Are. Some casual falsetto choir, a few layers of obnoxious guitar, the fading ending - the usual stuff. And also: we have uploaded sound-improved versions of Noise, Metal Eyes, Dancehall King, Nowhere Fast and Summer Nights. |
23-12-2005 |
Finished with our Christmas-shopping, we have taken the time to finish one of the old left-behinds: "Dancehall King". Merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone from Mikkel, Thomas and Tue. |
03-12-2005 |
Another song has been added to the collection. The new kid on the block is called "You're better off with you and me", and although it's mainly instrumental, you will be able to percept pieces of girrrl-gueststarz Rie and Agnete. We owe our thanks. The song is now ready for your download. |
21-10-2005 |
Yes, we have been silent for a long 5 months period, but actually we've been busy working on our forthcoming cd. There's a lot of remixing of the existing songs to do and there are also new songs to be played to keep up the spirits. And we got ourselves a new domain (http://www.frokostmusic.dk) which is a little more logical than the previous one. Our new emailadress is frokostmusic@gmail.com. We would like to celebrate all this new stuff with a new song. It's called "Hey Speedo" and is ready for your attention in the music section. We have three more songs in the pipeline, but God only knows when they will see the light of day. Stay tuned and have a nice weekend. |
22-05-2005 |
Although we spend most of our time right now polishing already released material, we've allowed ourselves one weekend "off" to record this brand new song: "The Wooden Chest" - a return to the short no-chorus format. We hope you like it. |
17-04-2005 |
First of all: we have recorded a new song called "Summer Nights". It's just waiting for you to download it. We honestly think it's catchy stuff. We have also re-opened the access to the entire back-catalogue from 1994-2001. There's no direct link to it from the main menu, though. You can find a link to it in the upper text on the music page (The Bedroom Recordings). We call it The Vault. And there's actually a "new" song in The Vault. It's called "Mesmerize" and is propably recorded around 1999 in Mikkels appartment. We thought it was lost, but were surprised and happy to stumble upon it recently on Mikkels labyrinthine harddrive. Anyway.. it's not for the faint of heart. And that's it. Resume: you should download the new song "Summer Nights". |
06-03-2005 |
A remake/remodelling of an old Frokost-song that just never made it. We really like this new edition of Nowhere Fast with its jerky guitars and simple drums. We are simple jerks. Enjoy. |
18-01-2005 |
The first thing we put out in 2005 is of course something from 2004 to build a subtle thematic bridge between Frokost-past and Frokost-present (on the Internet, no one can hear you scream). Well, actually we still struggle with a few of the leftovers from last year. And "Old Town Tokyo" has by far been the most enduring sketchbook-song since "Sunshine makes a better day". And here it is - suddenly when we had almost given up on it. All for you! |
31-12-2004 |
A close race but we made it. We have worked on three songs since we last put something out on the website. The two of them still hunt us in our dreams and have a long way to go, but the third one called "I like the way you are" (sweeeeet) is now ready for your ears. Happy new year, y'all, and thanks for listening. |
08-11-2004 |
We have removed the songs from the period 1993-2003. They will be available again soon. |
21-10-2004 |
"I am a monkey" has been added to vaults. We are particularly pleased with our crackling noises. |
27-09-2004 |
One more song added to the bedroom recordings. "Assrock" is 2 minutes worth of .. assrock. Step on in: http://embassy.gomedicine.dk |
04-09-2004 |
We have added a new song called "Sunshine Makes A Better Day". A really big amount of work went into this one. Come get it at http://embassy.gomedicine.dk |
21-08-2004 |
Mikkels infamous bedroom has once again acted as engineering facility. Summer is gone, and before the first winter-depressions catches up on us, we quickly put out two new songs: "I Let It Be" and "Here Come the Swim Stars". Actually, a third song was added in June, but no newsletter was send. This song is called "Walking On Slow Bones". As always we hope you like it. |
25-06-2004 |
Having a bad habit of never being able to finish our songs, we somehow silently have agreed on a generel new work-mantra: "we REALLY need to finish this now". The song entitled "City groove" (the latest transformation in the logical move from "Fingertue" over "The Epicurian" to "Rock-n-roll") has now been added to the Bedroom Recordings after a long stay on Mikkels harddrive. All our six hands have been involved. |
18-06-2004 |
More or less all technical details are now in place including culture of tiny drones for indefinite maintainance, aetherial algorithms for automagic site expansion, new tunes, improved sound quality and a steady source of income for all subscribers to the next generation notification AI mkII engine. |
15-06-2004 |
Finally we managed to put something on the web. Welcome to the site. Enjoy. |
